A military dolphin (with attached tracking device) doing mine clearance work in the Persian Gulf during the Iraq War.
Great photos from Iraq by J.Y
A little info about the photos:
“CIMG0234 is a relief on Sadam’s palace, which was later turned into COP Courage, where I stayed for a few months early 2009. As far as I know, there were no horses left in that part of Iraq at the time.”
“CIMG2016/CIMG2017 is a skinny cow seen near the Tigris river, in Iraq some time early 2009.”
“CIMG0455/CIMG0456 are my friend and interpreter Ali Yousif petting a dog our unit saved earlier that month, and my Soldier then learning to get over a fear of dogs.”
“CIMG0307 are more of the litter that had the dog mentioned above. My unit saved a dog in ‘09 near COP Courage, norther part of Mosul, and she had a litter. We raised them and then turned them over to our interpreters and their families when they got older. The mother didn’t get so nice an ending, nor did one of her own. He turned rabid and bit her, and when she died she was cannibalized .. we had to put him down.
Kind of a cheat”
